The bitumen plant in Jebel Ali is specially designed to :

• Store and load large quantities of standard pure bitumen
• Manufacture different grades of Styrelf® – the Polymer modified Bitumen (PmB) of TOTAL

Product Range

Azalt 60/70

Paving grades for road applications *AZALT 60/70: Standard bitumen (ASTM D946) The manufacturing process results mainly from the direct distillation of selected crude petroleum. AZALT bitumen are adapted to the manufacturing of the most of road bituminous materials.

APPLICATIONS

The domains of AZALT® bitumen application concern on the one hand, the Hot Mix Asphalt (main usage), and on the other hand, the anhydrous binders production, mainly bound for surface dressing. 
 

Styrelf

• Covered with more than 30 active patents worldwide, Styrelf® has been continuously developed by TOTAL to meet today's changing requirements (processes, products, applications…).
  
  Its performances have made Styrelf® the leading technology of the PmB binders designed for roads with extreme characteristics ranging from Mount Evans (Colorado) at 4,359 meters altitude to the Formula 1 racetrack in Monaco and specifically adapted for highways.
  
  In few years, Styrelf® has become a worldwide renowned brand: more than 10 million metric tons have been sold over the world
  
  
• Styrelf® is produced by in situ crosslinking thermoplastic elastomers within bitumen.
  Its continuous polymer network within a bitumen matrix, provides a very fine and homogeneous microstructure and results in outstanding properties : Increased durability, Excellent cohesion of the binder, Decreased thermal sensitivity, Increased adhesiveness with aggregates of various mineralogical types, High level of elasticity Excellent stability during storage

Thanks to all these performances, the Styrelf® technology meets the requirements for pavements submitted to high mechanical stresses (highways, racetracks, roundabouts…) and exposed to extreme thermal and climatic conditions.

It particularly suits to open porous asphalt (noise and aquaplaning reduction), thin and ultra-thin surfaces (high roughness for better grip, and materials savings), anti-rutting asphalt mixture, stone mastic asphalt, fuel resistant asphalt mixes (IntaKt® range)…
