Environment and sustainable development: Meeting new challenges

Respecting persons, safety and ecosystem protection is central to Total Lubrifiants' preoccupations.

As a global player in the energy and chemicals industries, Total is fully engaged with these developments and issues.

At Total Lubrifiants, sustainable development finds its application through Product Life-cycle Analysis. From manufacture to collection of used oils, our lubricants are examined and monitored in terms of their environment impacts using ISO 14001 standard procedures.

Used oils

Used oils are only slightly biodegradable; their disposal in the natural environment is therefore hazardous for natural systems .used oils thrown into any waterbody will reduce the amount of oxygen available for the flora and fauna.

Important!

  • Never throw used oils in waste traps, waste fills, gutters or drains,
  • Never use them as a weed-killer,
  • Never use them for protecting woodwork,
  • Never use them as heating fuels.

Used oils must be handed over to one of the following professionals:

  • approved recycler,
  • approved waste recycling centre,
  • approved final disposal agent

Biolubricants: Environment protection and effectiveness.

Environmental protection and sustainable development rank high among public concerns.

TOTAL's awareness of these issues has led it to develop a range of biodegradable lubricants for use mainly in applications where product leak or accidental spill could cause a direct environmental impact (as in farming, fishing/boating and inland marine, industry...)

The main feature which makes these products unique is their ability to self distruct, leaving virtually no trace of pollution.

Long Drain lube oils: reducing used oils changes.

The goal for Long Drain lube oils is to have longer drainage intervals, so as to reduce the total amount of used lube oil per traveled distance. In addition to reducing the amount of used oil, maintenance operations are also reduced overall for the consumer on his/her vehicle, therefore cutting downtimes and maintenance costs due to oil changes.

QUARTZ INEO enables the engine to reduce polluting gas emissions by 50%.

Low SAPS lubricant contain a reduced proportion of sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur.

Formulated with an all-new generation of additives, the QUARTZ INEO range considerably increases the efficiency of anti-pollution systems, particularly Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF): the content of metallic components is reduced by 50%, which serves to increase the life span and efficiency of the DPF.
